Website vs Software: What Does Your Business Actually Need?
A website brings customers to you; software runs what happens after they arrive. Here’s how to decide which one to build first.
Read articleOffline billing, barcode support, GST reports and stock tracking — a practical checklist for picking billing software that fits your shop.
Billing software is the one tool a shop uses every single day. Choose well and counters move faster, stock stays accurate and GST filing becomes a monthly routine instead of a headache. Choose badly and you end up re-typing bills into Excel. Here is a practical checklist for Indian retailers.
Power cuts and patchy connections are a reality in many towns. Prefer software that bills offline and syncs automatically once the connection returns, so the counter never stops.
A pharmacy needs batch and expiry tracking. A mobile shop needs IMEI and serial numbers. A garment store needs size and colour variants. A restaurant needs table and KOT billing. Generic software forces workarounds — look for an edition designed for your trade.
Billing alone isn’t enough. Live stock, purchase entries, supplier dues, customer credit and day-end reports should all update automatically from each bill.
Barcode scanning speeds up the counter and cuts errors. Thermal printer support saves paper costs. Sending invoices and payment reminders on WhatsApp gets you paid faster.
Multi-branch, multiple users with permissions, and a customer portal are easier to have from day one than to migrate to later.
Ask who answers the phone when something goes wrong, whether training is included, and what renewals cost. A clear one-time or yearly price beats hidden per-feature charges.
